Detailed Analysis

HIT is title of the movie, and doesn’t imply a HIT film or a Super HIT Film 😊, H.I.T means ’Homicide Intervention Team’ (H.I.T). When I first heard about it and saw the trailer few weeks back, it is really intriguing and it is bank rolled by popular actor Nani & his sister Prasanthi from Wall Poster Cinema. Wall poster cinema – if you need a reminder, earlier made ‘Awe’ which was critically acclaimed, written and directed by Prasanth Varma (Rajasekhar’sKalki’ & YuppTV’s Not Out! Fame). ‘Awe’ won a couple of National awards as well in the very much deserving categories. So, HIT coming from a small yet bankable production house has got decent reach among the audience and credit goes to Vishwak Sen. Vishwak Sen is quite known for his bold and to the point on-stage speeches, with this remarkable Telangana Slang. In fact, he is very well known as Falaknama Das (his first movie venture) and needless to say, he is multi talented.

Since it is a Suspense Crime thriller, from the trailer you will get a gist about it, so I will not reveal any story points about it. First half of the film is really good and generates curiosity for it’s second half and that’s where I felt some loose ends left. You will feel a slight absurdness.

Vishwak as an impulsive officer having self management issues because of his personal tragedy has done complete justice for the role. His body language really suits for such characters and his ease of acting is a big plus as it feels very natural and you will feel connected. His performance and subtle dialogues are a big plus to the movie. He even delivered some classic comedy without diluting the content and his character.

Heroine Ruhani Sharma’s character (Chi La Sow’s fame) is restricted to spaced flashbacks and is just okay. In fact, Hariteja’s character runtime is more than Ruhani’s but the character is not so great, in fact it is not all convincing. Looks like the director has framed the character to deviate the audience and raise curiosity, unfortunately it didn’t turn that way. Murali Sharma and Bhanu Chander roles are just adequate.

Sailesh Kolanu’s screenplay is the one that engages audience in the entire first half, however, his story seems very ordinary in the second half especially once the motive is revealed. It is a minus for this kind of suspense or mystery thriller. Since it is his debut, his directorial skills are decent enough. But if there was a more convincing motive in the story, it would have really great. Directors like Mysskin (Thupparivalan, Psycho…), Ram Kumar (Ratsasan), Vetrimaaran(Visaaranai), Ajay (Imaikka Nodigal) have raised the bar and intellect of audience for thriller movies with their movies of great standards, so H.I.T feels like an infant 🙂

The technical aspects are very good and the DOP has done some spectacular work. Editing is also good. Background score is engaging and riveting. Considering a limited production budget for these kind of suspense thrillers, the movie is well made.

Overall, HIT has some engaging scenes but a few unconvincing episodes as well which may leave you with mixed feelings. It is an Honest and brave attempt by Sailesh Kolanu for sure, but ends on underwhelming note. For the attempt, change in the direction and the will to make such movies – H.I.T deserves an appreciation. One thing H.I.T conveys for sure is that

అర్థం లేని ద్వేషం, అనార్థాలన్నిటికీ కారణం!

I hope all the loose ends will be answered in the sequel H.I.T – 2 and hope they come up with a stronger story. I would definitely recommend H.I.T but with some reservations.
