A Laudable Attempt by Ramprakash Rayappa!
When one of my media friends suggested me to watch this movie on Prime Video, I did some research about this film. It is the dubbed version of Tamil film “Suttu Pidikka Utharavu” which has come in June 2019. As the trailer on prime looked pretty decent, with zero expectations I did watch this film. Surprisingly, the movie is decent with 108 mins runtime and it was quite racy too. This Telugu version has been produced by Bhavani Movies and directly they have released it on Prime Video. In these lockdown/quarantine times, I welcome content suggestions from everyone and even follow a few twitter handles to keep an eye on content suggestions. Frankly, I need to thank my friend for this suggestion because it’s a good flick.
So, the plot goes like this. Suddenly a colony in Coimbatore city will face a tough time because of a bank robbery that happened in the city and the robbers hiding in that colony. Due to that, the entire Coimbatore police team try getting to the robbery gang to arrest them. At the same time, a terrorist gang will also plan a bomb attack in the same colony. So, a lot of things happen in a single day in the colony. How all these episodes intertwine is the rest of the story.
The film has been written & directed by Ramprakash Rayappa. I really don’t know his previous works. But here, he did a decent job by writing a small story that has a lot of back storylines and presented it in a good manner. With that 108 mins of narration, he won’t make you feel bored. In that way, he has scored marks. It is quite obvious that he has taken inspiration from Hollywood films, but indeed the writing and presentation is original. The last 25-30 mins of the film is good with a lot of twists. The budget for the film is also quite low and that is clear. Jakes Bejoy (Taxiwala fame) is the music director and has given a fast-paced background score, that these kinds of films need as, there are no needless songs and commercial compromises.
Even the star cast of the film is not so very popular in the Tamil mainstream Cinema, apart from Vikranth Santhosh (cousin to Actor Vijay) and Mysskin (Popular director). Everyone has performed very well in this film. As I said, the screenplay has a lot of space for improvement. The film is so racy, you won’t get time to feel the loopholes while watching. The director keeps the movie engaging throughout.
My only point is that, had the director worked a bit more on the screenplay, this would have been a crazy engaging thriller. Considering the budget, decent acting by the star cast, racy screenplay, good music score, decent cinematography, do give this Action Thriller a watch on Prime Video.
